An amorphous metal transformer (AMDT transformer) is a type of three winding transformer energy efficient step up transformer or step down transformer found on electric grids. The magnetic core of this amorphous transformer is made with a ferromagnetic amorphous metal. The typical step up transformer amorphous transformer core is an alloy of iron with boron, silicon, and phosphorus in the form of thin (e.g. 25 µm) foils. step down tranformer with those materials have high magnetic susceptibility, step up transformer and step down transformers once built amorphous transformer core with very low coercivity and high electrical resistance. The high resistance and thin foils of step up transformers lead to low losses by eddy currents when subjected to alternating magnetic fields.
